Middle School Transition- In order to prepare students for the middle school transition, counselors visit each cluster to discuss students' questions and concerns. The counselors then relay this information to the middle school counselor to help them prepare for their visit to Reed.

Success Plans- Plans are developed in collaboration with teachers to help students become more successful academically.
Transition to 5th Grade
Transition to 5th Grade- Reed counselors visit each elementary school to with students and administration to discuss and answer questions. Elementary students visit Reed and are given student led tours and a chance to ask additional questions.

Multiple Intelligence Lesson- A lesson for grade 5 with school counselors.

Locker Days
Locker Days- Incoming 5th graders and new students are invited to come into the building during two set dates in August to practice lockers.
Coping Skills
Coping Skills- Students will define coping skills, discuss how the size of their reactions should match the size of the problem and be introduced to 9 coping skills and discuss. Students will work together through scenarios to identify which coping skills match the problem.
Social Aggression
Social Aggression- Students will identify socially aggressive comments and behavior while reading My Secret Bully by Trudy Ludwig in a small group setting. They will identify what coping strategies the characters used to deal with the problem and brainstorm other ideas that could be used.
Group Counseling Sessions
Group Counseling Sessions- Bringing students together to discuss a shared topic or develop new skills. Topics could include social skills, coping skills, organization, or managing grief.

Transition Activities- Designed for incoming 5th graders and outgoing 6th graders. Counselors work closely with the elementary schools and the middle school to provide activities to help make the transition to new schools smoother.
Empathy
Empathy- Students will define empathy and learn 5 steps toward being more empathetic. Students will be able to practice the 5 steps in groups.

New Student Pizza Lunch
New Student Pizza Lunch- Counselors host a lunch within the first few weeks of school for any student who is new to the school/district.
Holiday Helper Day
Holiday Helper Day- Counselors organize school-wide event where students are given the opportunity to donate to Reed families in need during the holiday season. Reed Student Council helps with this event.
Intro. to School Counselor
Introduction to School Counselor- Draw from students' previous knowledge of what a school counselor does to remind students of our role. Students create posters in small groups to illustrate how a school counselor can help. Student complete sentence starters regarding their interests and goals for the year.
Cluster Finder
Cluster Finder- Counselors review career clusters from grade 5 lesson and discuss the importance of tying your interests into your career choices. Students complete the cluster finder survey on Naviance and save their top choices to their student success plan.
Lunch & Learn
Lunch & Learn- Parents are invited to share their career experiences with students during the lunch/recess period.

Daily Student Check-Outs- Designed for reflection on students’ academic and/or social goals.
Intro. to School Counselor
Introduction to School Counselor- Introduce grade 5 students to their Reed school counselor and discuss how we can be a support to them at Reed. Students participate in a getting to know you activity and complete sentence starters to share their interests ans goals.
Career
Career- Students are introduced to career clusters and complete a written interest survey and learn how their interests can relate to future careers.
Introduction to Naviance
Introduction to Naviance- Students are introduced to the concept of Student Success Plans through Naviance. Students complete a goal related survey on Naviance.
